During a divorce or legal separation, spousal support, also known as alimony, will need to be addressed. It is generally engrained in our culture that only woman are entitled to receive spousal support; however, this is not the case. In fact, spousal support or alimony can be paid by either the husband or the wife.
Spousal support is awarded in two forms: temporary support and permanent support. During the process of litigating your divorce case, temporary support can be issued to either party by the court. Temporary support is generally based upon the wages of the parties; however, the court has discretion to consider other factors as well.
